Hayley Edwards, a 14-year-old from Werombi in Western Sydney, faced mobility challenges due to Angelman Syndrome with ataxia, impacting her balance, coordination, walking, and fine motor skills. Additionally, scoliosis affected her posture. Her family sought assistance from the John MacLean Foundation (JMF) to acquire a Mobile Safety Bed for Hayley, enabling her to safely visit relatives and enjoy family holidays away from home.

Recognizing the need, JMF granted nearly $7000 to fund Hayley's new Adrams Shimmering Sand single portable safety bed. Her previous bed, a TAD-designed disability-supported bed with fixed rails and support mattress, couldn't be transported or collapsed for use outside her home. This limitation meant Hayley couldn't sleep anywhere other than her bedroom, preventing her from staying with her father, grandparents, friends, or enjoying family getaways.

The portable bed folds and packs into a suitcase, facilitating travel and accommodation for family holidays, visits to relatives, and sleepovers with siblings. It features a low-to-the-ground design, dual entries, and space for toys and Hayley's iPad. Hayley's mother, Jodie, believes that this bed has significantly improved her daughter's quality of life, enabling her to engage more with her community.
