When 10-year-old Ayha’s family trialled a new all-terrain wheelchair they realised what a difference it would make to Ayha’s life and the new activities they could all enjoy as a family.

Ayha Naaman, from Kingston outside Brisbane, has Lissencephaly so cannot move independently and is reliant on others for all aspects of daily life.  She uses sounds and expressions to communicate.

Ayha is dependent on a wheelchair at home and on outings.  Her family were limited in what they could do together and saw the potential for more family holidays and days out when they saw what the Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair was capable of.  So they reached out to the John MacLean Foundation and were successful in their bid for $6700 to buy the new wheelchair.

According to Ayha’s mother the wheelchair has opened up many more opportunities for Ayha because it can cope with the beach (including the water), parks, bushwalks and backyard play, and it “has contributed to a better quality of life for Ayha.”
