JMF Kids 4 Kids are as tough as nails!

By | Extreme Fundraising Adventures, Fundraising, Grant Presentations, Inclusion, JMF Kids 4 Kids | No Comments

JMF Kids 4 Kids are as tough as nails! Nothing stops them completing their Ironman challenge.

Ineke took on JMF Kids 4 Kids Challenge 12 week challenge and broke her arm half way through. She did not let her broken arm and cast get in the way of her swim session.

Congratulations Ineke you have won yourself a Garmin Vivofit.

” Here is a video of me doing some of my swimming for the JMF challenge while I had my arm in a cast. I’ve been talking to my family about the foundation and hopefully I can get some more donations, I have enjoyed the challenge a lot even with a fractured wrist. I really enjoyed meeting Talitha and Brodie at assembly. They inspired me. ”

Words cannot express their courage …

Words cannot express their courage …

I wanted to share with everyone the words that Jenny Baker, Brodie’s Grandmother, delivered at the JMF Kids 4 Kids presentation at Armadale Primary school.

“Hi Friends

I can’t begin to express what your gift means to Brodie and our family. The money is most definitely helpful and will go to complete essential modifications to where Brodie lives and allow him to live as normal as his condition will allow.

We are also extremely greatful to John Maclean and his Foundation for their continuing support without which Brodie would not have progressed as far as he has, there is no doubt about that.

But more than the monetary value, we so greatly appreciate the thought behind the gift you children (JMF Kids 4 Kids) have made. Illness is a burden but your actions will really lighten the load. For that especially, we thank you.

12 years ago when we collected Brodie from The Royal Children’s Hospital his prognosis was not good and his future did not look good. His mother had shaken him so hard that he had lost half his brain and now had Cerebral Palsy. But with stimulation, exercises and the help of The John Maclean Foundation Brodie can now read, spell and use his iPad and computer. He also attends school and his latest report shows he is above average.

Looking after Brodie who has Cerebral Palsy and a brain injury has been difficult for us, but knowing we have the support of The John Maclean Foundation and children like you (JMF Kids 4 Kids) participating certainly helps.

Please know we wont forgot your kind gesture. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts and we wish you well in your future …”

What a DAY!

What a DAY!

Yesterday JMF held a JMF Kids 4 Kids grant presentation at Armadale Primary school where 21 students and four adults have raised over $4500 so far during their challenge.

This presentation was special as it is the first of what we hope to be many JMF Kids 4 Kids schools across Australia who encourage their students to participate, create healthy habits by being active and very importantly teach their students the importance of giving and changing the life of another.

The presentation was held during the school assembly and we invited our Grant recipient families, our sponsors Boost Juice Foundation and Hyundai Help For Kids to join us to celebrate what the JMF Kids 4 Kids participants had achieved so far.

We hope that Armadale Primary school along with St Paul’s Grammar in NSW are the first of many schools to encourage their students to participate in this incredible program we run.

Could not have gotten through the day without Hyundai! Lots of things for the presentation in this boot!

Only Possibilities for this little girl … We love receiving updates from the families we have helped and this clip is no exception. Beautiful Lauren continues to push herself everyday and the rewards are bountiful!

Lauren and her family were welcomed into the JMF family in 2014 and we are so proud to share this very special video. After years of intense Physio 8 year old Lauren managed her first independent transfer out of her chair. A HUGE milestone as it was thought she may never be able to achieve this. Congratulations you gorgeous SUPERSTAR!

A budding musician and very special little girl, Talitha is five years old and has cerebral palsy and myopathy which are both severe and life limiting.

She lives at home with her mother and requires 24 hour care, 7 days a week with constant suctioning and repositioning in order to maintain a safe and clear airway.

Talitha picked this picture of herself for us to use to introduce you to her. How special is this precious little girl?

A heart of GOLD and sheer determination makes Phoenix Rogers a girl that will stop at nothing to achieve her goals.

Phoenix is just 8 years old, the daughter of Football superstar Mat Rogers and TV personality Chloe Maxwell, and is one of our #JMFKids4Kids 8 weeks participants. She will complete an Ironman distance triathlon by swimming 4.8km, ride 180km and run 42.2km over 8 weeks because she wants to make a difference to the lives of children her own age who live in wheelchairs.

“I have already told Dad I will do an Ironman with him one day, but I’m just a kid so completing an Iron distance triathlon over an 8 weeks is pretty good for now”

She wants to raise as much money as she can to help children in wheelchairs.

“I think it’s so sad that some kids can’t do certain sports because they are in wheelchairs. I am hoping to raise lots of money to make lots of kids in wheelchairs smile … Mu mummy and Daddy like helping kids too. I am excited to do what i love and help raise money to help kids.”

Phoenix has a love for triathlon and won her age group in the Like Harrop Triathlon in Southport last year. Watch out! … This girl could one day represent Australia in the Olympics or at the IRONMAN World Championships as a professional triathlete.

Brodie is a SURVIVOR!

Brodie is a SURVIVOR!

JMF is proud to announce Brodie as our second JMF Kids & Big Kids 4 Kids grant recipient for 2015.

Brodie is a beautiful and strong willed 13-year-old boy who relies on a wheelchair for day-to-day mobility and still regularly undergoes treatment and surgeries at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Brodie has cerebral palsy which was caused by abuse, horrible shaking by his mother, when he was less than a year old.

What a smile this gorgeous boy has. He continues to fight every day to be as included and interactive in everyday life as he can possible be and continues to defy all the odds.

What a smile this gorgeous boy has. He continues to fight every day to be as included and interactive in everyday life as he can possible be and continues to defy all the odds.

Brodie lives with his grandparents who have dedicated their lives to caring for him. JMF first met him when he was six years old. The Foundation has granted over $20,000 in support for Brodie and his inspirational grandparents. The grants we have been able to provide have assisted with a wheelchair car modification, a new trike that at the time helped to build leg strength and provide some independence. We also have provided an accessible computer with a touch monitor that Brodie worked by touching the monitor instead of the keyboard and mouse.

Brodie has defied the odds all of his life and continues to push the boundaries on a daily basis. He has exceeded his reading goals and is considered to be top of his class and quite often will read a story to the whole class, he absolutely loves all of his books that he has and often stays in bed a bit longer on the weekend to read them.

He also loves his touch screen computer and his iPad and has a great love for music especially Michael Jackson. He sings with his Carers while he is in the shower and this is how they get him to do some of his exercises.

Brodie can write a little and is always challenging himself with new words to spell. He can correctly identify time to the hour and independently read the time on a digital clock and also analogue.

Brodie is one smart little boy especially as he has only got half a brain as a result of the horrific shaking that he endured as a baby.

As Brodie grows, his needs become more complex and it becomes a little more challenging to create a safe environment in the bathroom for him to be bathed. JMF is so happy to be contributing to bathroom modifications that will make it a safer and more enjoyable environment for Brodie to bathe in. Without the modifications he would no longer be able to be showered at home as it is too hard for the Carers.

This grant will ensure Brodie can remain at home and make a much safer and more independent environment for him to be bathed in.

We look forward to continuing to support Brodie and his grandparents and have no doubt he will continue to defy the odds.

This is Brodie in the All Abilities Swing in Bairnsdale which he visits on most weekends. He just loves the swing.

Southern Crossing

The Great Southern Crossing with JMF – You can support JMF by riding your bike!

In previous years you have been among an amazing group of people who have raised funds for us. We are really grateful for your support and wanted you to know that the money you have raised has helped us ensure we continue to help young Australians in wheelchairs remain active and included in their everyday lives.

KEEP HELPING US MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Your ongoing support means a lot to us, so we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that you can continue to make a difference by fundraising for JMF in The Great Southern Crossing which begins on Nov 1, 2015.

The Great Southern Crossing is a virtual cycling event utilising Everydayhero’s platforrn’s brand new integration with the world’s most popular cycling app – Strava. The event takes place throughout the entire month of November and entry is free to all participants.

The way the event works is by challenging teams of up to 5 or individual cyclists to ride hard through the month of November, using Strava to log their kilometres. Each team’s goal is to log enough kilometres with Strava to virtually cross Australia on a route that will take them 5,200km from Brisbane to Perth.

Money raised from this event will continue to provide support and equipment for children who live in wheelchairs and help us grant them much needed equipment to change their lives.

The change to Rose’s life will be enormous as she gains independence with movement and community interaction with her family, leisure activities and create a greater quality of life.

The simple joy of being active and able to be included in leisure activities is something many of us take for granted.
