ASHLEA IS FULL OF SMILES

Lovely Ashlea and her family attended a Clarendon Homes Event last Friday in Sydney where she was presented with a Grant for $15,000.

The donation from Clarendon homes has meant that JMF can grant Ashlea a brand new custom manual wheelchair and a Hi Low chair.

Without supporters like Clarendon Homes JMF cannot continue to change the lives of these precious little Australians.

Help us support more families by DONATING TODAY

OR taking on a challenge like #JMFKids4Kids and #JMFBigKids4Kids

Change for Hannah

Change for Hannah – you can help us change lives too

Hannah is a beautiful 11 years old girl who lives with her parents and younger sister. She is not able to walk without equipment as pictured below and is always seen scooting around in her manual wheelchair.

Currently Hannah’s bathroom is not very accessible for her and a temporary ramp and platform have been arranged to allow her mother to push her into the shower using a her mobile shower chair.

Unfortunately this arrangement is difficult due to the small space available, which makes what should be a relaxing experience a potentially dangerous one.

On June 25th at Urban Hotel Brisbane JMF will be granting Hannah and her family bathroom modifications that will change this arrangement and create an easily accessible and safe shower area, which will change their lives.

These grants cannot be given without the generous support of partners like Accor Asia Pacific, Hyundai Help for Kids, all the participants of JMF Kids 4 kids 2014 including the support of Boost Foundation.

Is JMac planning his next challenge?

He is certainly getting some training done, seen here after after a long tandem ride.

Any guesses for what might be next for John Maclean?

Any suggestions on what challenge John should take on next?

Thanks @Hyundai Australia and @Hyundai Help for Kids for enabling John to get around town and supporting The John Maclean Foundation.

Unstoppable Aaron is an outgoing 13 year old boy who suffers from Spina Bifida (GMFCS 111), hydrocephalus and epilepsy which limits his ability to be independently mobile and risks falling and seizures. Despite this he regularly participates in sit-skiing, fishing and playing in the back yard.

He has an incredible smile loves to live life and experience all manner of things. Aaron keeps his parents fit and young’s they try to keep up with him.

Aaron is going camping to Central Australia with his family and needs “FreeWheel” attachment for his chair to enable him to participate in all outdoor activities without mobility restrictions.

With this “FreeWheel” attachment he will be able to take his chair across the rugged terrain he will encounter in the Outback and experience the beauty and magic of Central Australia with his family.

We wish Aaron and his family a wonderful holiday.

Oh what a Year!

By | Fundraising, Grant Presentations, Inclusion, JMF Kids 4 Kids, Uncategorized | No Comments

Oh what a year The John Maclean Foundation has had in 2014 which could not have been possible without the support of YOU.

The recent JMF Kids 4 Kids Grant Presentation was a wonderful end of year celebration involving the incredible participants in this years program and included a group of very special families who received Grants.

The following video was produced by 2C Films – Cameron Craig who has offered his talents to JMF over the years and captured these incredible moments for us to share with you.

A Room full of smiles

HUB Cafe at Hotel Urban St Kilda was a room full of smiles on Saturday December 13 at our JMF Kids 4 Kids Grant Presentation.

The JMF Kids 4 Kids program is about getting children active and outdoors whilst raising money for little Aussie kids in wheelchairs to enable them the equipment they need to be active and included in everyday life just as every child deserves. The presentations that the participants take part in rewards them by introducing them to the families they have directly helped through their fundraising. They get to see first hand the difference this equipment makes to these Grant recipients lives and take pride in knowing they have helped these children.

It was wonderful to have eight JMF Kids 4 Kids there to receive their medal, finisher t-shirts and certificates but most importantly to see them meet and play with the five Grant recipient children and their families.

These participants have all swum 3.8km, ridden 180km and run 42.2 km over a four, eight or 12 week period covering an IRONMAN distance triathlon and with the help of sponsors like Boost and Hyundai Help for kids raised over $50,000.

The five families that attended the grant presentation were greeted by the JMF Kids 4 Kids and also John Maclean. It was exciting to have the Today Show filming the afternoon which will be aired next week and help to increase the awareness of The John Maclean Foundation, JMF Kids 4 Kids and the work we do to assist young Australian’s and their families in wheelchairs.

Another highlight was to have BOOST juice bars Marketing Manager Nikki attend and help us present the families with their Cheques. A big thanks also goes to Adam, BOOST juice bar Australia’s General Manager who flew in from Sydney just to be at the presentation.

Connor is 16 years old boy and has Duschenne Muscular Dystrophy unfortunately could not attend the presentation as his family have just moved to house.

We are granting Connor a Quickie Lightweight manual wheelchair so that when his powerchair is in for repairs which can take up to 5 days he is still able to be included and active BUT most importantly so he is able to stay with his dad in Canberra during the school holidays. To do this Connor needs to be able to have a manual wheelchair to take on the aeroplane. This will be wonderful chance for Connor to spend more time with his dad.

The afternoon was a wonderful way to finish off a hugely successful year for the John Maclean Foundation. In 2015 we have given away just over $120,000 in Grants and we hope that 2016 will be even BIGGER!

Take a look at the incredible footage taken at the John Maclean Foundation Grant Presentation hosted by ACCOR Hotels at The Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in Sydney.

With Donations like the $40,000 presented to The John Maclean Foundation by ACCOR Hotels Australia we can help many more children and their families like those you will see in this short presentation piece.

The footage was filmed and put together by the talented and generous supporter of the John Maclean Foundation, Cameron Craig from 2c Films.

ACCOR Australia Grant Presentation

On Friday November 21, at Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in Sydney, ACCOR Australia hosted the John Maclean Foundation and ACCOR Grant presentation where we gave away $25,000 in Grants to four wonderful families.

ACCOR Australia have been long time supporters of The john Maclean Foundation and as a part of their support for International Day of People with Disability which is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being, they donated an incredible $40,000 to JMF.

Grant recipient families joined ACCOR Management and Staff at Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in Sydney for an inspiring afternoon including a presentation by John Maclean where he shared his incredible journey and vision for the future of The John Maclean Foundation.

John Accor

John Maclean inspiring the audience with his incredible life journey to date.

It is very challenging for the Grant recipient families to attend these presentations as the needs of their children are often complex and require the transportation of equipment. The families we touch often live in outer suburban areas and we are very appreciative when they are able to make the long journey to our presentations.

Four amazing families attended this presentation and were able to share their stories, gratitude and talk about the difference the Grant would make to the lives of their children.

Maria

Little Maria came dressed like a princess complete with glitter in her hair. Her new wheelchair will give her the independence and freedom that every 6yr old deserves. JMF looks forward to keeping in touch with Maria and her family to assist her as she grows.

Callen

Callen was joined by his parents and two siblings for the presentation. The Grant that was presented will assist in the families car being modified to transport Callen’s wheelchair. Lionel, Callen’s father, has recently had back surgery to fix an injury resulting from lifting his son in and out of the car. The Grants we provide assist not only the children in wheelchairs but their entire family.

Destan

It was wonderful to see Destan and her family again. To be able to assist these families as their children grow and their needs change is an important philosophy of The John Maclean Foundation. We assisted Destan’s family previously with a Grant towards car modifications. It will be lovely to follow Destan as she starts High School next year and follow her progress.

Addy

Last but definitely not least is precious little 3 year old Addy who touched every bodies hearts. She has a range of complex medical needs and we will be following her closely as she grows so we can assist her further to enable her to keep up with her little brother.

Addy’s mum Brook sent through a lovely message that I wanted to share. “I just wanted to say thankyou so much for an amazing afternoon on Friday I have never felt so welcome any where than with all of you I am so thankful to you all for Addy’s chair you are all amazing people so much respect for you all. Thankyou again”

The John Maclean Foundation would like to thank ACCOR for assisting in making it possible to support these incredible Aussie Families with young children in wheelchairs and make a life changing difference in their lives.

Please help us continue to change lives by DONATING to the Foundation.

Meet the beautiful Analeise

By | Fundraising, Grant Presentations, Inclusion, JMF Kids 4 Kids, JMF Wave, John Maclean, Uncategorized | No Comments

It is with great pleasure that today I introduce you to our adorable second Grant recipient Analeise.

Analeise is 8 years old and has Arthrogryposis which requires who to endure multiple spinal surgeries as she grows.

Her mother and her sibling suffer from the same condition which makes it very difficult for her family to support Analeise in the bath.

Analeise

JMF is going to provide a bath lift for Analeise and her family to enable more independence and fun at bath time.

Analeise’s mum shared a few words about the Grant they will receive on Sunday in Nepean.

Thank you so much. Words can not express just how greatful I am to your Foundation for the grant.

The bath lift will give Analeise much needed independence. Currently Ana is unable to get in or out of the bath and due to her rods she is unable to sit in the bath unaided. The lift will not only help her get in and out it will also support her spine so she will be able sit bath herself without my assistance.

PLEASE DONATE so we can help even more little Aussies in Wheelchairs like Analeise.
